OUR STORY

We officially opened our doors on Jan 1, 2008 in Richmond, CA. I got tired of driving 5 miles for a shot of good espresso and wanted a place for high-end coffee that was community-centric, in Richmond, of all places. Landscapers in line next to lawyers. This sums up Catahoula: a gathering place for all walks of life.

The liquid culture "aha moment" was after years of frequenting Starbucks, etc, and trying to figure out what the key to a good cup of coffee was. Eventually I discovered it's the perfect combo of milk and quality espresso — that's it! And thus, paired with my love of Catahoula dogs, Catahoula Coffee was born….

Since our opening, Catahoula Coffee has established itself as an award-winning coffee producer, not only in the Bay Area but with "Catahouligans" from Coast to Coast. We are a Premier Artisan Coffee Roaster and we take coffee seriously (not ourselves)!  We source the finest green beans — not only the very best quality but from growers that are responsible to the earth and their farmers — and roast them to perfection.

In 2014 we opened our Berkeley location, and since have been continually expanding our partners around the Bay Area, from grocery stores to cafes and restaurants, all in the hope of providing others with a good cup of coffee without having to go too far from their homes as I did all those years ago.

As the world keeps spinning, we’re working hard to keep spinning with it. Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, we have grown our online presence and expanded our coffee subscription options. In the age of 1-day shipping from Amazon, we have also streamlined our order fulfillment process to guarantee a fast turnaround so that you can enjoy our coffee as soon as possible.

I hope to see you around one day at one of our cafes...or at the dog park!

Our Quality Promise

When it comes to coffee the bean source, quality, and roaster are all important. To have superb coffee, you need both great beans and a great roaster. That’s why we use a 35 kilo Loring Smart Roaster to ensure our beans our roasted to perfection. We also source our beans from farmers around the world who have a commitment to responsible farming and their communities. We love when we see the direct impact that our business has on the farmers. Also in this vein, in our cafes we use organic Clover milk and the very best almond, soy, and oat milk that we can find.

Our Environment

It is our duty as a business to make choices that are responsible to the world that we live in. We wanted all our power to come from 100% renewable sources so we partnered with MCE Clean Energy many years ago. We care about quality in everything, our beans, our roasters, our coffee drinks — and our power source is no different. Catahoula is proud to be among Richmond’s first Deep Green Champions!

We also offer all of our coffees, our Naked Series, in fully compostable packaging. Just select “Bag Type: Naked” on the product page.
